RFL Weekend — A Wish for Life

papercranes

A few years back I did a RFL sim on the track for RFL weekend.  Every year they ask me if I can do another one and most of the time I’m busy.  This year I decided to fit one in though things got a bit hard for awhile, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to.  Life has been so difficult for me this year getting time in world.

They gave me the region called Life on the track.

It’s rather fitting technically because I had been mulling over a concept when I was asked to do the sim that really sort of suited that.

Have you ever read the story of Sadako?  She was a young Japanese girl who died in the 1950’s from leukemia, it was a story I read when I was young and in school.  Something that stuck with me, I re-read it before doing this sim partly because when I was asked that was one of the first things that popped into my head.  Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes.  When I read it I of course learned how to fold them and used to often.  I loved the little things.  The story itself centers around this little girl who gets sick and slowly dies. One day while in the hospital her best friend came to visit her and said she had a solution.  Her friend brought paper and scissors and showed her how to fold a paper crane. Sadako asked how this would help to which her friend reminded her of an old story… The crane was supposed to live a thousand years, and if a sick person folds one thousand paper cranes the gods will grant their wish making them healthy again.

Her friend gave her the wish of life creating for her the first of her paper cranes and with her friends help learned to fold them and until she died it was her goal to continue.  Friends, family, nurses… everyone saved pieces of paper to bring to Sadako so that she could try to fold her cranes.  Her brother hung them from the ceiling and she was surrounded by them as she slowly worked on them throughout her illness.  With each crane she made her wish.. “I wish I’d get better…”

“Out of colored paper, cranes
come flying into
our house”

This once vibrant little girl who only wanted to be able to run was stricken with something so terrible… it always stuck with me and as her mother whispered softly “Oh flock of heavenly cranes, Cover my child with your wings.” swinging over her head within the hospital it reminds me of how often cancer in its varying forms strikes for whatever reason.  In this instance war, the dropping of the atomic bomb… just terrible war created a whole generations afflicted by the cruelty of man.  Everyday people are stricken, suffer and are in pain all hoping and wishing only to get better.

That is the inspiration for this sim.  A quiet, peaceful place of reflection.  Japanese inspired garden with water, lilies, a gazebo and trees… Maples and things all sweeping around a wood path…. and if you look within the water… paper cranes floating.

The paper cranes… wishes.  Wishes from me to those who traverse the path, to those who suffer, to everyone who is afflicted or in pain.

I wish that you could get better, and I will always continually be folding my paper cranes through the span of my life for those like Sadako, a hope… a wish… a dream that those vibrant little girls who just want to run to be safe from the pain.

Come RFL this weekend with me, and make a wish.

Thank you so so so much!

I love the Faire.  Have I ever mentioned that?

Yes?  Well… ok.  I love the Faire.

In this time when there are SOoooo many shopping events, gacha events, this event that event all of them asking for money I know that it is harder and harder for folks to really be able to help out or go out there.  I mean really, even just all the charity events.  RFL all over and these things.

Fantasy Faire is just different.

I know it has a crapton of shopping sims.  Yes, but the whole intent and purpose is way different.  The core of it.  The heart of it.  Between all the fundraising events like the jail and bails…. which really can be great fun as people are tormented for our amusement and then the tours, the festival offerings, the shows.  Cabaret shows, particle shows, plays, music. Role-plays going on, stories abound linked to the different Fairelands. The beautiful sims to spend time on, a masquerade ball, the auctions, silent and live.

So so so much.  I was actually not aware of some things going on until I started looking at the events realizing just how packed every single  day of the Faire is. You almost can’t do it all… there’s so much, you have to actually plan it out a bit. *laughs*  This year I got to enjoy it a little differently again, more as a Faire goer.  The last few building a sim by the time you get to the Faire you are dropping at your desk and still trying to keep going because you have a few more things that need fixing up.  This year I was able to spend it a little differently when I did.  It was good to remember but I miss creating for it still.

But the real reason for this post is to highlight the silent auction.

Last night the auction that I had posted up for the 6 months worth of product had a bit of a bidding war towards the end and it got up to 35,000L

I know for the promised things that someone can get that really is a bargain still however I am so happy that it was able to make a decent amount for the Faire in the end.  We always hope for more of course, it is for a good cause and granted this is based on a promise.  You really didn’t know what you were going to get and of course that’s a fairly big thing.  What if… on the off chance someone doesn’t like one damned thing I made that period? (you don’t think I don’t think of these things?) So I am grateful, and thankful for the people who were willing to put their faith in my store, product and person.  I won’t let you down.

I hope. *grins*

So to the winners of the Silent Auction!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Kit Lyons (kariritaisho resident), and Cherish Bellic for driving that price up and then in a weird twist of fate decide to split the prize. *laughs* to you both again thank you, and I hope you enjoy all of the little packages that will be coming your way.

So…. now…. what do I do for next year?

6 Months of the Roawenwood a Fantasy Faire RFL Auction

(Disclaimer: no I can’t count.  I realize that it’s technically 7 months worth of releases lol)

Would you like to win for yourself and one other person (or an alt) a full 6 months worth of new releases from the Roawenwood?  Well……….. guess what?

As part of Fantasy Faire I decided to go big.  This year like I keep going on and on about is my tenth year in SL, along with the Roawenwood also finding itself in the same predicament, so THIS year I’m going a little bit big in all things when I can.

auction Blog

This auction will if won give the winning bidder plus one friend/alt of their choosing new releases from the Roawenwood for a period of six (6) months beginning on the first of June and concluding December 31st 2016. Products defined as new may be store releases, event releases, marketplace releases, or gacha sets. Gacha sets made available as part of the ‘new releases’ for the month if applicable will ONLY be given as no transfer objects to the winning bidder and friend.

Limited edition, one of a kind, or special prizes/product releases (such as the Seed of Inspiration used in the Gacha Garden event) are not applicable to this auction and will not be included in the package. Each month at the END of the month all items for the current month that have been released within it as new products will be packed up and then sent to the winning bidder and friend/alt.  Example; on or around June 30th – July 1st the winners will receive a package for the month of June

The winning bidder is defined as the Second Life avatar account that wins the silent auction during Fantasy Faire 2016.  The friend or alt is defined as the Second Life avatar account that is named by the winning bidder at the conclusion of the silent auction for Fantasy Faire 2016.

Only the winning bidder and the friend/alt Second Life accounts named at the conclusion of the silent auction for Fantasy Faire 2016 will be eligible to receive the monthly new releases packages promised by the store entity known as the Roawenwood.  The auction and prizes cannot be transferred to another Second Life account under any circumstances. The prize package cannot and will not be redeemed for Lindens, or monetary compensation of any sort.

The new releases can cover a broad spectrum of content though generally of the Home and Garden category there can be accessories for avatars, some clothing – generally female, and other miscellaneous items as the creative spark hits.  There are no guarantees or promises on content that may or may not be delivered other than what is outlined here and the winning avatar should be aware of the possibility of adult content being a part of the items created for the Roawenwood.

Packages can be redelivered as needed if necessary

ALL proceeds for this auction benefit RFL (Relay for Life) and the avatar/person known as Searlait Nitschke will receive no monetary compensation of any kind in conjunction with the aforementioned auction.

The notecard in world has some recent releases type pictures and all that you can get at the auction site but if you’re looking at the blog you can see things in older posts.  In general, whatever I come up with is fair game.

Roawenwood & Fantasy Faire 2016!

It’s here! One of the biggest events of the year… 14 sims.  This year there is 14 sims, wow huh.  Not all are considered shopping sims, there’s ones for quest, for entertainment, the junction with the teleports and silent auction then of course the shopping/themed sims.

I wasn’t able to build one this year.  Not for lack of drive or wanting to but time.  I just didn’t have it.  I knew that real life was going to basically keep me going in one direction from mid January until just about now before it started to settle down which is essentially when all of the Faire business begins ramping up from choosing the themes for the sims, planning and working on them until opening.

I missed it.  A lot.  More than I thought I would.  I even talked to a few people about it.  I knew it would be hard but didn’t really realize how hard it would be for me to not contribute on that level.  I enjoy so much the creation process, the unmasking, the sharing… even the stress, the sleeplessness of it and all of the hard parts, the anticipation, the nerves. It really is one of the things that makes my SL very much a part of me. That sharing aspect… it is also one of those things I work for in RL as well, RFL has a big impact on me both in SL and out of it.  So as it was drawing closer I grew a bit more thoughtful about it all.

Deep Woods Forest SojournI am sponsoring the Junction sim. Saiyge has done another fabulous job creating the spot where people teleport in and it really is supposed to get better.  Conceptually the sim itself is supposed to change over the course of the Faire.  How it looks now…. and how it will look later are going to be two different things and if I have it right from what I understand from her is that it is going to slowly come to life.

Ambitious, very ambitious to be changing, shifting a sim while the event is on going over the course of a week or so.  She’s really outdone herself in trying to create something that people will enjoy.  I’m quite honored to be allowed to sponsor her sim and thankful for it.

Fantasy Faire is more than just a shopping event.  There are so many of those now.  It is really a gigantic collaboration from a group of people who put a lot of time, thought, love, and creation into each small piece of it. It’s about raising money of course, as much as we can for cancer research and such but it also a gathering. Of people, of survivors, of caretakers.  It is a gathering of people who for the most part throughout my participation through the years shown only the very best of what SL or life has to offer. A lot of people working together, spending time together, playing together and sometimes crying together. It’s much much more than just a shopping event and I hope that everyone who goes gets to see a glimmer of the magic that I see every year, that I am proud to be a part of and that I look forward to sharing every year no matter how many years I am in Second Life.

Now…. now that I’ve talked a bit about the Faire I’ll show some of the things that I have for sale there.  I didn’t get what I wanted to get done, never really do but I have a few things so far.  If I get more time then I’ll make something else perhaps but you know how that goes.  With everything else… time is a very hardly fought for commodity.

The first item I’m going to highlight is a Limited Edition type of thing.  I am not going to sell it after the Faire, and it won’t be available anywhere after the Faire either.  It’s a small offering but it will be something like a one of a kind from my place.Rally Racers - Truck

It’s a small pond type structure with trees on either side of it, I have grasses, butterflies floating and ferns surrounding it along with a mossy ground prim thing that pulls it all together.  Simplistic perhaps but I thought of forest nymphs and satyr’s bathing in the woods… deep in the woods where no one was going to stumble upon them.  Since it’s a PG event there’s no sex animations *laughs* but there are some nice cuddly sorts, there’s some bathing things as a couple.  Massages and stuff, so it is a couples set.  A few animations for single sitting around soaking type things are also included.  Grasses, ferns and the butterflies can be taken away from the scene if you don’t want them.  I included the ferns and grasses in the pack too on their own so you can use them wherever.

It is ONLY going to be sold at the Faire, if you like it… should get it now, and ALL proceeds are going to RFL, I won’t ever see a dime from it personally.  Please buy lots. *laughs*

Rally Racers - Crate CarThe other two items I have up there that are new are just for fun and kind of cute.  Since I equate Fantasy Faire with a lot of playfulness always using it as a time to get cute little avatars like kitties to wear, or flying around like a petite, or being a tiny elephant then it shouldn’t really be a surprise that I end up wanting to play or have fun things.  One thing that is a tradition for some of the Faire folk is a bus ride where we pile on, drive around the sims and generally cause havoc.  Very much a fun time. This year I found these lil cars.  Cute as hell, and made them into bumper cars.  I couldn’t help myself.  It was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.  I can imagine traipsing around the sims running into things but that might not be so nice to do to people. *coughs* But you know…. there’s a sweet little explosion sound when you crash into things or each other… usually, sometimes it doesn’t like to sound and I don’t know why.  Damn thing.  Anyhow…….. it’s fun.  Just pure fun.

Two kinds.  One is a crate car, and the other is a set of pick up trucks.  Old vintage styled.  There’s quite a few colors included in the trucks one, crate one well… only the one style but it’s perfect for it.  Honest. I had a lot of fun with these and made sure to test them out properly, yes I did.

I hope you have as much fun with them as I did, and hope you get them. *nods*

With that I’m going to close this post.

Remember!!! I’m on the Fairelands Junction Sim!!!  There’s only two stores on the whole sim… mine and Saiyge’s.  I’m along one of the walls as you walk around it.

TAXI to the Faire!!!

Open now through May 1st

Home & Garden Expo 2016!

A couple things to pester you with today.  The Home & Garden Expo for RFL has kicked off.  I’m late in getting these announcements out because of a very hectic RL but I’m getting to it now.

Complete awesomeness in the making you know.  Anyhow… I have three items out at the expo that are set to give 100% donation.  I would have done more but like I said, crazy life is making it really hard to.

They are some really nice spring like things for your landscaping.

Heartstones Stepping Stones Flowering Spring Trees Heartstones Open Heart Stepping Stones

Take a taxi to HOPE 4 to see the exhibit and wander the sims.

Tangleshimmer Treasures - Sitting StumpsI actually like the way my display looks, if you’re interested should take a peek.

NEXT!

20Twenty… an in store event where you get an item for a 20% discount for twenty days I believe it is.I’ve been in a spring like outdoorsy sorta place so I pulled together something for the foresty in all of us.  The set of stumps have sits for male and female avatars.  11 apiece so you get a nice selection, sit and chat or while away the time… then there’s a couple cuddles set up in it.  Nothing major but a couple.  Makes it so you can if you want but no pressure.

It’s colorful and comfy in my most humble of opinions, perfect lil spot to hang out.  Not too bad on the Land Impact and at a discount… only 360L

Not bad eh?

Lastly, this is just me being bad. Bad, bad, bad.  An event I didn’t even get the time to tell you about.  The XOXO hunt, it’s a lil different. Everyday come to the store say xoxo in chat and it’ll tell you you can have the gift for nothing or try again tomorrow type deal… or you can buy it outright for 50L.

Now it’s technically over. I know…. bad bad bad.  But I checked and it seems the script still works so I’m going to leave it out for a few more days.  If you want to try to win it… come down and try, or you can purchase for 50L.

Heartsy Lovers SpotSo basically that’s everything for the moment I think.  I’m running around and trying to remember but I do believe that’s it.  I’ll be sticking my head out again soon, March is coming… can you believe it?  Which means Twisted Hunt and a bunch of other goodness too.

So until next time!
